Nut Graf

In journalism, a nut graf is used by many journalists to provide background information as well as add a transition from the into to the rest of the story. The nut graf is a small, extra paragraph that directly follows the intro paragraph. The nut graf is used to show readers why they should read the story, and why it's relevant and important.
Basically, when writing a news story, the Lede should consist of a who, what, when, where, why, and how. However, sometimes stories just don't flow that way and need a better transition. This is where the nut graf comes into play. It's important to not give away the ending of the story in the nut graf though, but it should have enough information for people to want to keep reading.
