American Soldier

A. I think the most meaningful picture would have to be the picture titled "A Bark Hello" because it shows Ian's face realizing how tough his superiors were and what he had just gotten himself into. B. The images work together to showcase Ian's emotions at different points in his journey, showing how much he evolved. C. The captions enhance the photographs in that they always thoroughly describe what Ian is feeling, and describe the exact time he is feeling it. So, in that way, it makes viewers feel like we're watching it firsthand. D. Ian Fisher is an ambitious high school student who decides to join the army. He struggles at the beginning with behavioral issues and struggles to keep up, but he eventually gets much stronger. He faces challenges such as a drug problem as well as finding his own self connected to his home and in the military, but he eventually pushes himself to learn and find good friendships. After returning home for good from Iraq, he marri

Ruth Hobart, 91, forgets where she put her prunes at her retirement home. Her prunes are quite important to her, and she got mad when she couldn't find them.  Barney Johnston, 81, starts busting a move in the town parade. He was originally about his recovering hip, but did this so kids could see what 'real dancing was.'  Beth (left), and Bessie (right), cruise on main street. Best friends since 1950, the two pooled their coupons to buy the coolest orthopedic shoes with matching circulation socks.

Abandoned Theme Parks

1. I would want to visit Land of Oz, Beech Mountain, North Carolina, USA because I think the twisted Wizard of Oz element is really interesting. I feel like I could get some creepy pictures using the element of lines for the yellow brick road. From the pictures shown, there seems to be fog everywhere, which would add to the chilly feeling. The dark trees would be especially cool to photograph because they grow all over the park and they almost look like arms - reaching out to grab people. 2. 3. 1) museums in small towns 2) abandoned water parks 3) empty cathedrals 4) old farms 5) underground places 4. 5. I think it would be incredibly interesting to take pictures here because of the conflicting elements of nature broken into a building. The light would add a great dynamic to the darkness and coldness of the cathedral. I love how the greenery juxtaposes the stone, which would be interesting for the picture. Overall, I think that this would be a good place to take pictures b

Africa

1. Reading the story from Scientific American, I was mostly fascinated by how passionate Nick Brandt was about the animals in Africa. He showed how dedicated someone must be to take authentic pictures. The pictures that I saw were proof that Brandt took the time to wait for the animals' schedule. Especially Lion Before Storm II - it's easy to see how much time was spent to take that picture. 2. 3. In this picture, a relationship between two lions is shown. A male and female lion walk across a field, while the male lion lovingly touches the female lion with his head. This picture is my favorite because the subjects are clear, and I love how it clearly shows the relationship between the lions.  4. In this picture, multiple rules of photography are apparent. It has simplicity because of the simple field and the obvious subjects, lines because their bodies form lines backwards, and also balance, because the empty spot in the middle forms a square.  5. 1. Looking at Bill Brandt's pictures for the first time, the main thing that caught my eye was how sleek and clean his pictures are. They aren't too distracting, and all his pictures are just easy to look at. I loved his frequent use of the 'lines' rule of photography as well. 2. I see the long stretch of buildings going far past my eyes can see. It stretches past the horizon, still next to the water. The building is damaged from the rising water. I smell the waft from the polluted water. As I stand there and wind comes past, I smell the water that has been sitting there. The stench can be smelled from far away. I hear the laps of water hitting the side. The ripples from the water make clicking sounds. As the water hits the side, I hear droplets of it hit the ground near me. I taste the tainted water. I taste sourness and unknown substances. The still water has an unnatural smell. I feel cold as a chill runs by, creating ripples in the water. Small drops fr

Mural Project Preview

1. Three themes my group could shoot are: nature, transport, textures 2. I will need to think about ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed. There are other more specific things like light and focus, but the main aspect to work on are the three pillars of photography. 3. We could showcase our pictures online through social media or our individual blogs. Another resource would be to post the pictures on the bowie website for our school to see.
