The Camera

The Camera

1) The camera Obscura Effect is achieved by in a completely dark room, make a small hole in the wall. Through that hole, the light is focused, and then the outside scene is projected upside down on the opposite wall. The hole basically worked as a modern lens.
2) In the 17th century, Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens perfected the subject of optics and how to make high quality glass lenses.
3) In 1827 Joseph Niépce added film to further advance the construction of the camera. From that point, when a glass lens, film, and a dark box worked together, the modern camera was created.
4) Modern cameras have most of the basic parts that Niépce brought together - film, and a lens.
5) One thing that's different between modern cameras and Niépce's cameras, is the built-in digital film inside of the camera.

Camera Modes
6) Auto mode will completely control the flash and exposure, giving the photographer more control. Program mode leaves the camera pre-set, and just allows a quick picture to be taken.
7)  Portrait mode is used for pictures of people. It blurs out the background, so it puts the camera on the fastest setting possible.
8) Sports mode is used to freeze any motion, so it uses the highest shutter speed possible. This could be used for any kind of sport, jump, etc.
9) In manual mode, the photographer is responsible for adjusting the aperture and the shutter mode. It gives the photographer more control over the specific picture that they want.

The Half Press
10) The half press works better than just using the auto focus because if the picture is off-center, the camera might not actually focus. By pressing halfway down on the camera's trigger, it allows for the camera to fully focus. It attempts to lock in the focus, and doesn't lag as much as just using auto focus would.

Controlling Flash
11) The given symbol means that the flash is disabled. It's best to use this when the photographer feels the mood of the photograph could look more dramatic with natural lighting.
12) This symbol means auto flash is on. Auto flash is automatically used by most cameras, and turns on when the camera thinks more light is needed. This should be used when the photographer needs to take a quick picture without having to think too much about lighting.

Introduction to exposure
13) Too much light can make the picture look washed out.
14) If there is too little light, then the picture will appear too dark.

Universal Stop
15) A stop is a term that means the relative measurement in light.
16) With 2 stops instead of 1, there is 1 stop.
17) With 4 stops instead of 2, there are 2 stops.

Shutters and Aperture
18) Longer shutter speeds allow more light into the picture.
19) Shorter shutter speeds make less light come into the picture.
20) Aperture works like a pupil - it controls the brightness that goes through the lens.
21) By creating a larger opening, it allows more light to be let in. It allows the brightness to be greater.
